Ivy in bonsai - Training ?

Some ivy trees lend themselves perfectly to bonsai training. For training techniques, let’s draw on the experience of Daniel Puiloube, author of Les Bonsaï et Jardins Miniatures :

Keep a stem until it is 10-12 cm long and has taken on a woody appearance. Then tie it up to keep it upright, and start pinching off the side shoots as you would any bonsai tree. Keep three side shoots, pinch them at 3 eyes when they have already reached 7-10 cm in length, and pinch back any shoots that appear at 2 or 3 eyes. To give them a true tree-like appearance, they need to be artificially over-wintered for 1 to 2 months (stored at +5 to 10°C if possible), otherwise they’ll look a bit limp. Clean up excess twigs two or three times a year.
