Description
Ornemental ivy – Hedera helix ‘Buttercup’
In a nutshell
Ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Buttercup’, is an ivy with attractive, small to medium sized, golden yellow leaves when grown in full sun.
The leaves are composed of 5 lobes with blunt tips. The blade is completely yellow provided that the plant is well exposed to light. If it is in a more or less shaded situation, the blade is chartreuse green.
It is a branchy ivy , with rather short internodes, which grows very slowly. Very popular for its intense foliage color, it prefers sheltered situations, in well-drained soil, even dry. Outside this situation, the leaves turn green and the plant does not grow… Situations in the East are to be preferred. It can be used as a climber or as ground cover.
This variety was awarded the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) Garden Merit Award in 2012.
