Description
Ornemental ivy – Hedera helix ‘Courage’
In a nutshell
Ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Courage’, is a beautiful climber with original foliage.
The edge of the leaf has more or less large teeth. The palmate leaf is composed of 5 to 7 lobes. Its base is heart-shaped. The blade is dark green in the center and edged with light green or chartreuse green. These shades are much more pronounced in sunny situations.
This ivy is particularly suitable for hanging baskets, but also makes an excellent ground cover or an elegant climber.
History
This variety of ivy is a mutation of ‘Maple Leaf‘ discovered by Emily Barbee at her nursery in Virginia, USA.

What does palmate mean?
What does palmate mean?
The vocabulary used by botanists to describe plants is very rich. For leaves alone, you may come across dozens of specific terms.
The word ‘palmate‘ applies to a leaf with several lobes organized along the veins, which all fan out from the top of the petiole. The indentations between the lobes almost reach the middle of each half-lobe.
