Description

Ornemental ivy  – Hedera helix ‘Curvaceous’

In a nutshell

The ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Curvaceous’ , is remarkable for its colours, the winter red edging making it even more sublime.

The leaves are formed of 3 to 5 shallow, wavy lobes. The base is distinctly cordate. The apex is often rolled inwards. The blade is spotted with grey-green and edged with creamy white. In winter, in dry and cold weather, a red edge may appear.

This is an ivy to be used rather as a climber. It is also interesting in a large pot. Its growth is rather slow. It is very hardy, but it fears persistent cold drafts.

History

This cultivar was discovered by Elise Everhardt, in Catonsville, Maryland, USA, in 1980. It is a mutation of ‘Manda’s Crested’.
