Description
Ornemental ivy – Hedera helix ‘Kolibri’
In a nutshell
Ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Kolibri’, is an ivy with bright variegations that always have a great effect.
The leaves are composed of 3 to 5 lobes with shallow sinuses. The blade is dark green to bright green, widely variegated with creamy yellow. The variegations are more marked in subjects exposed to the sun. The stems are well branched. The youngest take on pink colors in winter.
This is a variety that has been the subject of many successive selections. We can therefore find more or less variegated variants. Its cultivation is a little tricky in humid situations. It is more suitable as a houseplant.
History
This cultivar results from a mutation of ‘Ingrid’ selected in 1975 at the Brokamp nursery, Germany.
