Description
Ornemental ivy – Hedera helix ‘Pirouette’
In a nutshell
The ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Pirouette’, is a very original variety that lives up to its name. The leaves, with deeply cut lobes, are as if pinched at the base, which forces them to wrap around the stem. The petiole is extremely short.
The stems are thick but flexible. The blade is light green, shiny, when the leaves are young. It then turns dark green.
This is an ivy with modest development that forms a thick and dense carpet.
History
This cultivar was discovered in 1982 by Frank Batson of Angelwood Nursery, Oregon, USA. It is a mutation of ‘Flamenco’.
