Spanish ivy, Hedera iberica ‘Monchique’, is a variety found by Dr. Mike Jones southeast of Monchique, in the Algarve, Portugal. It has broad, olive-green, matte leaves with several more or less deep cut-outs. The elongated lobes point forward.
Young leaves are tinted deep red. They then turn more or less dark green.
This cultivar is more vigorous than the species. It prefers shady situations.
History
This cultivar was discovered by Dr Mike Jones southeast of Monchique, Algarve, Portugal in 1988
